On June 14, 2018, USAID/Kosovo Mission Director James Hope visited EMPOWER's Private Sector beneficiary, Palma Mobilje in Gjilan, one of the leading furniture manufacturers in Kosovo. Mr. Ekrem Shahini, owner and General Director of Palma, told Mr. Hope around the modern Palma facility and talked about the products the company produces and the success his company is experiencing.
In 2015, the EMPOWER Private Sector project supported Palma with a grant to co-finance the necessary equipment for the final packaging of its products and later enabled the company to participate in the IMM 2017 and 2018 furniture fairs in Germany. During the visit, Mr. Shahini also spoke about the positive impact that the support of EMPOWER Private Sector has had on the company in terms of productivity, sales, exports and job creation.
The company has achieved a lot in the three years since production began. It currently employs over 120 workers and exports over 60% of its products mainly to Europe and the Middle East. In partnership with SIDA – Swedish Agency for International Development Cooperation.
